Your credit summary lists all your personal and business credit registrations at BKR. It also shows any notifications regarding situations occurring during your credit agreement. If you do not see any credit in the summary, you probably do not have any credit that needs to be registered at BKR.

Which types of credit are registered at BKR?

Maturing credit

  • You are given access to a certain amount of money
  • You repay this amount in fixed instalments
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR
  • Example: a personal loan

Standing credit

  • In advance, you agree on the maximum amount you'll be allowed to spend: your credit limit
  • You determine the amounts, frequency and timing of your withdrawals
  • You repay in monthly instalments
  • You may withdraw amounts again after you have repaid them
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR
  • Example: credit cards with payments in instalments

Debt assistance

  • You are in arrears in payment of your rent, health insurance or utility bills, or you have problematic debts with the tax authorities or a credit provider
  • Example: a municipality starts a debt assistance programme for you

Restructuring credit

  • A credit bank buys the total amount of your outstanding debt from your creditors in one lump sum
  • This is done via the municipality or via a credit bank
  • From then on, you only have one debtor left to repay
  • You are granted three years to repay the entire debt
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR

Mortgage credit for home owners

  • The credit provider grants you an amount to purchase or renovate your home
  • Your home serves as collateral for your debt to the credit provider
  • The credit provider is entitled to sell your house if you fail to fulfil your repayment obligations
  • This is only reported to BKR if you are in arrears

Mortgage credit for other immovables

  • The credit provider grants you an amount to purchase or renovate an immovable property that is not your home
  • The immovable property serves as collateral for your debt to the credit provider
  • The credit provider is entitled to sell the immovable property if you fail to fulfil your repayment obligations
  • In the credit agreement, the credit provider specifies the amount and the date before which you must fulfil your repayment obligations
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR

 

Residual debt on mortgage credit and residual debt on mortgage credit for which NHG has been claimed

  • You have sold your property and you have a residual debt to your mortgage provider
  • If your mortgage was covered by the National Mortgage Guarantee (NHG) scheme and you have a residual debt on the sale of your own home, you can claim support under the scheme.
  • The credit provider will report to BKR your outstanding amount and the date before which you need to fulfil your repayment obligations
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR

 

Operational car lease agreements

  • You enter into a private lease agreement for a car that is fully managed by the lease company
  • Your only obligation is to pay monthly fixed instalments to the lease company
  • In the lease agreement, the lease company specifies the amount and the date before which you must fulfil your repayment obligations
  • Credit in excess of € 250 is registered at BKR

Other financial obligations

  • You get a sum of money for private use or you provide surety for someone else
  • If you are providing surety for someone else, you will be registered at BKR if the credit provider issues a formal request to make a payment, but you fail to pay before the given deadline
  • The credit provider is required to send you an advance notification of the arrears
  • Example : unauthorised overdraft. You have a bank account that does not have an overdraft facility, but in practice you run into overdraft situations due to, for example, automatic payments

 

Business credit

  • You have a credit agreement in order to practice your profession or run your business
  • This could be standing credit for a maximum total amount, giving you the discretion to determine when, how much and how often you make withdrawals
  • At the start of the credit agreement, the credit provider does not report the amount of the credit, the credit provider only reports the end date (if applicable)
  • Credit in excess of € 1,000 is registered at BKR
